Avoriaz - Resort description & ski information
Avoriaz is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area near the French/Swiss border and is renowned for snowboarding thanks to the many international competitions held there. The resort has plenty on offer - whether you are looking for good apres-ski or a family resort! Avoriaz has a friendly atmosphere thanks partly to the fact that it is a pedestrian only resort.
Skiing in Avoriaz
Avoriaz is suited to all levels of skier and rider. Skiing in Avoriaz you really feel that you are 'going somewhere' each day rather than repeatedly skiing the same slopes. For advanced skiers there are some good off-piste variations near the Les Hauts Forts sector and a long testing black run from Le Plan Brazy which follows the steep line of the FIS downhill course. For boarders there are three terrain parks, including La Chapelle for beginners and The Tete aux Boeufs - where international competitions are held.
The resort
Part of the charm of Avoriaz is that the village streets are pistes - making this the definitive destination for doorstep skiing. The resort also has a wide choice of restaurants, such as La Table du Marche or Restaurant Gastronomique. The Place, Le Shooter's and Globe Trotters Cafe are all popular international pubs with live music and Le Tavaillon-Pub attracts the young English crowd. For late night partying head to Le Fest and Pub Le Choucas.
