Chamrousse - Resort description & ski information

ust thirty minutes’ drive away from the charming French town of Grenoble, Chamrousse is one of the most accessible ski resorts in the Alps. Home to the 1968 Winter Olympics downhill events, this pleasant resort has plenty to stretch the most demanding intermediate skier, while families will find more than enough to entertain them both on and off the slopes.

Skiing in Chamrousse
As a family-friendly resort, there is plenty for beginners here, with a fantastic network of greens and blues crossing the mountainside, and many ending up in the villages themselves. Don’t be fooled into thinking that everything here is designed for beginners though; at the top of the Croix de Chamrousse there is a choice of blacks that will challenge most skiers, and if that isn’t enough, you can test your stamina and your nerve on the Olympic downhill runs. There’s plenty for boarders here too, with a very decent snowpark, and there’s even one designed with kids in mind so they can experiment away from the busier slopes.

The resort
Of the two main villages in Chamrousse, Roche Béranger is the best place for families, with the most direct access to the easier slopes, and a gentle amount of nightlife. A free shuttle bus runs between here and Le Recoin, which has a more lively après-ski scene, though both centres have a good choice of bars and restaurants. There are plenty of non-ski activities on offer in Chamrousse, including hiking, snowshoeing and ice skating, and you can always make the quick trip into Grenoble for a night out or some retail therapy.
