Isola 2000 - Resort description & ski information
Located in the southern French Alps, just 90km from Nice, Isola 2000 is one of the few places in the world where you could feasibly ski in the morning and dip your toes in the Mediterranean in the afternoon. So far south, it offers plenty of sunshine married with an excellent snow record, with some runs starting as high as 2610m. Although this purpose-built resort is far from the prettiest in the area, its location and variety of runs make it an excellent choice for families and groups of mixed ability.
Skiing in Isola
With some comfortable nursery slopes, a good range of blues and reds, and some testing blacks, Isola can accommodate most levels of skiing. Many of the runs end in the resort itself, whilst some of the more testing blacks, especially in the St Sauveur ski area, are rewarded with stunning views, some as far as the shimmering blue Med. on clear days. Snowboarders are well catered for with a decent snow park with half pipe and boarder cross, and the area is prime for off-piste skiing, or even heliski for the more adventurous.
The resort
Isola 2000 is a well-planned resort with a whole host of amenities in the centre of the village. Lively pubs and welcoming restaurants abound, complete with plenty of outdoor cafes to soak up the mid-afternoon sun, coffee in hand. Aside from skiing, you’ll find plenty of other activities to keep you busy; sledging, skidoos, ice skating, snowshoeing and even ice driving are all possibilities. If you fancy taking it a bit easier, there is a cinema, or for a really unique experience you could try a trip in a horse-drawn sleigh.
