Meribel - Resort description & ski information

Slap bang in the middle of the Three Valleys, Méribel has a fantastic location, access to some of the best skiing in the world, and a vibrant nightlife. Created by a Brit, and decidedly un-French, this purpose-built resort is very popular with UK skiers in search of varied pistes and riotous evenings.

Skiing in Méribel

Méribel itself is home to 150km of pistes and a couple of decent snowparks, putting it in an excellent position even before considering what lies beyond. Some of the best blacks and off-piste are to be found on Mont Vallon and Mont de la Chambre, while intermediates will find lots of varied terrain to hone their skills on closer to the village. Beginners, meanwhile, are better off heading to the linked resort of Méribel-Mottaret and the Altiport area there. From Méribel you have easy access to the entire Three Valleys area, which is home to 600km of pistes, and is considered one of the best and largest ski areas in the world. It contains a staggering 52 green runs, 128 blue, 123 red and 33 black, not to mention endless off-piste opportunities and some really wonderful scenery. For more information on skiing in the Three Valleys, see our pages on Courchevel, La Tania, Méribel-Mottaret, Les Menuires and Val Thorens.

The resort

The round of happy hours, live music and general revelry starts relatively early in Méribel, and usually carries on into the wee small hours. There are plenty of pubs to choose from, and a wide-ranging selection of restaurants, including some top-notch Michelin-starred establishments. During the day, there are plenty of non-ski activities on offer, including swimming, skating, hiking, snowshoeing, hang gliding, ice climbing and dog sledging.
