Montgenevre - Resort description & ski information

Quiet, and rarely overcrowded, Montgenèvre is a fantastic little ski resort right on the Italian border. Perched at 1850m, snow is virtually guaranteed, while trees protect skiers from the worst of any inclement weather. This is a great place for families and mixed groups, with something for everyone, along with the chance to drive to the neighbouring French resorts of Serre Chevalier, Puy St Vincent, Les Deux Alpes and Alpe d'Huez, or ski right into Italy and the entire Milky Way area.

Skiing in Montgenèvre

Montgenèvre itself is excellent for beginners, with sunny nursery slopes to start out on, and some beautiful blues and greens up on La Crête and Querelay. Intermediates have plenty of choice too, with one of the best reds leading from the Colleto Verde right on the border, while the more advanced will adore the endless off-piste, and everyone will admire the views. If that wasn't enough, the entire Milky Way ski area is accessible from Montgenèvre, and that means 400km of piste, plenty of challenging off-piste and some fantastically steep descents. Not only that, but the Milky Way area was home to the Turin 2006 winter Olympics, so the slopes are in tip top condition.

The resort

The ski resort of Montgenèvre dates back to 1907, and as such is hardly the most modern of ski centres. For that reason though, it has a welcoming, homely atmosphere, and although the nightlife isn't exactly buzzing, there are plenty of traditional restaurants and pizzerias, and you'll usually be able to find some live music. Those looking for non-ski activities will find a cinema and ice rink, or you could try a skidoo, sledging, snowshoeing or ice skating.
