Tignes - Resort description & ski information

With guaranteed snow and almost year-round skiing and boarding on its very own glacier, Tignes has a lot to offer both the serious skier and the eager novice. Along with Val d'Isère it forms the breathtaking Espace Killy, which offers 300km of some of the best skiing in Europe. Tignes itself is made up of five villages, and Ski France offers accommodation in the three most central - Le Lac, Le Lavachet and Val Claret. We even have budget hostel beds in the latter so you can enjoy the snow without worrying about your budget.

Skiing in Tignes

With 150km of pistes all to itself, Tignes has something for everyone. Beginners can find their feet on the decent nursery slopes, while intermediates will find plenty of challenges on the blues and reds. Peaking at 3656m, the Grande Motte Glacier is home to some of the most serious skiing in the area, with some truly fantastic off-piste to explore. You'll also find a popular snowpark up here that keeps the same dates. An efficient lift system links the pistes so you'll not have to waste too much time in long queues, and Val d'Isère awaits in the next valley with yet more to offer every level. See our page on Val d'Isère for more information.

The resort

The busiest nightlife centre here is Val Claret, with some lively British bars, and a few nightclubs thrown in for good measure - if you feel the need for something more raucous, then head over to neighbouring Val d'Isère. As Tignes is mostly self-catering there aren't exactly lots of restaurants, but there is still a choice between fast food and traditional French cooking. As for off-piste activities, these include ice diving and climbing, dog sledging, horse riding, swimming and snowshoeing to name but a few.
