Isle sur la Sorgue
The medieval town of Isle sur la Sorgue is located on the islands of the Sorgue river, which flows all around, as well as through the town, giving it the nickname of ‘The Provencal Venice'. The result is a number of bridges dotted around the narrow streets as well as water wheels which date back to the textile and paper making industries which provided most of the town's wealth. This is evident in the mansions on the outskirts.
Isle sur la Sorgue has museums to discover, and is famous for its various antiques dealers and fairs. The stalls take over the streets filling them with people and colour. The town has many cafes and brasseries in addition to more sophisticated restaurants to sample.
