La Feclaz

The Savoie Grand Revard is a vast ski area which unites three neighbouring resorts, Revard, Plainpalais and La Feclaz. La Feclaz is a particularly charming resort which is located in the south of the Savoie Grand Revard ski area. Getting from one village to the next is fairly easy, with free buses providing a quick link.

La Feclaz is ideal for first time skiers, with plenty of nursery slopes and a true and authentic mountain top experience. The area is home to 50km of runs and some of the best cross country skiing in the Alps, with 140km of trails running through the beautiful forests. Heading to the very top of this ski area, visitors can see the Mont Blanc and the vistas of the Alps. The village is located at approximately 1400m and is a small and cosy resort. People looking to party might be disappointed but there are a few low key restaurants and bars.

The pistes of La Feclaz stack up at 21% green, 42% blue, 27% red and 9% black. There is 50km of pistes divided into 33 runs, and the longest run stands at 5km. There's a total of six lifts giving access to the slopes, and passes are competitively priced, compared with other resorts. January and February have the best snowfall, although snow cannons are situated to cover a 10km area. Night skiing is available on selected dates.

Beginners are well-catered for in La Feclaz, as there is a large proportion of green runs, making this a very attractive resort for beginners. La Feclaz has been described in the past as the perfect haven for intermediate skiers and it is easy to see why: the runs are not only numerous but varying. Whilst some pistes take you through wooded valleys others take you into a nice open area with stunning views of the Mont Blanc.

As with many resorts, the advanced skiing is more limited but that does not mean that there is no challenge. Cross country skiers can take advantage of the many routes that start at La Feclaz. Snowboarders will also enjoy the gentle slopes for practicing those moves. There is no snowpark in this area but you will find a boardercross. Don't forget that your ski experience is not limited to La Feclaz. Revard and Plainpalais are easy to reach and whilst they are both attractive villages, the ski area is very similar.

For a low-key and relatively small resort, La Feclaz has a number of snow based activities. These include sled dogs, snow scooter, sledge cross and yooner. Snowshoeing and paragliding are also readily available. For those who want to immerse themselves in the local culture, there is a museum and numerous folk evenings to give you a real sense of the resort's heritage. For a family night out there's even a cinema. Shopaholics might get a little frustrated in this area as any retail therapy tends to be in the form of ski shops, but this does offer respite for the purse strings though.

If you are looking to eat locally, La Sapey in La Feclaz is a traditional chalet styled restaurant offering local specialities, this restaurant also stays open late and is the nearest thing to a nightclub in the area. A new addition to the culinary scene is Le Saint Jo, which provides easy going meals at reasonable prices. If you are looking for a wider range of restaurants you could always venture into Revard or Plainpalais.

Ski Season

The winter season generally starts on the 19th December and runs through to the 27th March each year, but this does naturally depend on snowfall. Lifts operate between 9am and 5pm.

Lift Passes

Prices tend to be comparatively reasonable, with an adult day pass starting from 18.50 euros. Bundles and offers are available, and it's worth doing your research and buying beforehand.

Ski Equipment Hire

Ski Set is the recommended shop for ski hire. Online discounts can be attractive, so it is advisable to book beforehand.

Lessons and Ski Schools

There is one Ski School in this area, ESF La Feclaz. Private lessons start from 33 euros and a week's pass from approximately 126 euros.

Childcare and Family Facilities

Whilst the beauty of this resort is its authenticity and not overly commercial status, childcare facilities are lacking. However, there is a playground and magic carpet lift to make things a little easier. However, for families who simply want to ski with their little ones, La Feclaz could be the perfect solution, with its good range of beginner and green pistes.

Parking

There are plenty of parking spaces in La Feclaz, in car parks, plus our residence in La Feclaz offers free parking to Madame Vacances guests.
