winter summer

Le Dévoluy holidays are perfect for:

- Alpine activities aplenty, with plenty to entertain children

- Something a little different, including farms and mushroom picking tours

- A good range of family-friendly accommodation with Madame Vacances

The Le Dévoluy massif is situated in the south-west of the Hautes-Alpes, with access to Grenoble, Gap, Lyon and even Marseille as well as the mountains. The Le Dévoluy area is made up of four villages: Saint Etienne en Dévoluy, Agnières en Dévoluy, Saint Disdier, and La Cluse, and two resorts: Super Devoluy, and La Joue du Loup.

Alpine Activities

While a hugely popular skiing destination in the winter, Le Dévoluy offers a huge range of alpine activities to take part in. The easiest way to enjoy the beautiful area is to pack some snacks and a drink and head out on one of the area's hiking trails. Whether you fancy an open air meander, or a mystical forest adventure, there are plenty of well-mapped trails to choose from. Particular favourites include the Gorges des Etroits and the Pic de Bure.

For indoor activities, the area offers swimming pools, saunas and well-being centres, with the chance to rest tired muscles after a long day's hiking or climbing. For the really active, the Dévoluy sports centre offers fitness classes, a multi-sports hall with climbing, volleyball, squash and more. There's also a baby gym, for when tots get restless!

Mountain biking

Whether you're a total newbie, or an advanced mountain biker, there are plenty of trails to explore. There are six downhill mountain bike tracks in Le Dévoluy, and a mountain bike lift to get you to the top again. The lift costs Eur14 a day, and bike rental is readily available in each resort.

Le Col du Noyer was one of the stages of the Tour de France 2010, and remains a high mountain route for daring cyclists. At its highest point, the track reaches an altitude of 1,664 metres, and affords stunning views of the area, if you can catch your breath to enjoy them!

Something a little different

Principally a sheep-farming agricultural area, the Mérinos d'Arles sheep is prized here. There are over 60 farms, which are opened to public in the spring and summer months, and tours are given, with feeding times for the lambs available.

Sitting just north of Le Dévoluy, Les Gillardes is the second largest natural river source in France, and runs freely throughout the year. Gushing out of a block of enormous rocks and into the Souloise River, the Les Gillardes source can flood at up to 56m3 a second! When the weather is fine, this is a beautiful place for a paddle, or even a brisk swim.

Punchy flavours

Renowned for its sheep-raising agriculture, the Le Dévoluy region produces delicious fresh lamb. The Mérinos d'Arles meat is tender, with plenty of flavour. Being so close to both Gap and Grenoble, as well as Italy's border, there's a fantastic Mediterranean influence on Le Dévoluy cuisine.

As a popular winter sports area, be prepared for plenty of quick eat options as well as relaxed and traditional French cuisine in Le Dévoluy. Pizza is widely available, popular for its speed, ease and value for money. In Super Dévoluy, well-reviewed restaurants include Chez Patras, Pronto Pizza, Accro Pates, while mountain restaurants include Vi Ai Pi and L'Etoile Chalet Restaurant. In La Joue du Loup, visit the Chardonnelles Hotel restaurant, and La Gueule du Loup for good food and excellent service.

A tipple or two

Although it's mainly a family domain, Le Dévoluy does have several pubs and clubs to unwind in. Pub le Loft in Super Dévoluy is a chilled venue with modern pop-culture decoration, snookers, Xbox 360 and sports screens. Opening from 5pm, this bar also features DJ nights, offering variety throughout the year. For full on clubbing, Le Chalet and La Fournaise are the places to be, in Super Dévoluy.

Madame Vacances offers self-catered summer accommodation in La Joue du Loup and Super Dévoluy. Whether you're looking for spacious chalets sleeping up to twelve guests, or cosy apartments for two to eight people, we have a good selection of alpine accommodation in Le Dévoluy.

Les Chalets SuperD in Super Dévoluy offer homely apartments in the centre of the resort, with disabled access, an indoor swimming pool, and free WiFi in reception.

In La Joue du Loup, we offer Les Chalets de la Crête du Berger, and Les Chalets du Village Bois. Crête du Berger have access to a swimming pool, while Chalets du Village are situated in the very centre of La Joue du Loup.

Résidence la Crête du Berger offers apartments with disabled access, outdoor parking and an indoor swimming pool.

The wide range of amenities are easily accessed from all of our Le Dévoluy accommodation, so simply pick which suits your holiday style best!
