Peyragudes holidays are perfect for...

  • -Stunning summer activities
  • -A holiday destination you can come back to time and again, and still find something new
  • -Picturesque landscapes in every direction

For a stunning ski and summer resort with jaw-dropping views and first-rate facilities, look no further than Peyragudes. Perfect for many different types of holiday, this resort lies in the most picturesque part of the French Pyrenees and is a wonderful option for anyone who would love a summer break with ample opportunities to keep active and soak up the sunshine. With an altitude of between 1600 and 2400 metres, the resort boasts rural scenery and an atmosphere like nowhere else.

Peyragudes itself is located in the Luchonnais area of Haute Garonne, an idyllic department in the Pyrenees, and our Residence Les Terrasses de Peyragudes has a wonderful location in the heart of this resort.

There is so much to keep you active in this family favourite resort that the only problem many tourists find is managing to fit it all in to one holiday, which is why so many holidaymakers return to Peyragudes time and time again.

Picturesque cycle routes

Cycling is a popular pastime in the resort, with almost 25km of excellently maintained cycle paths, leading through varied landscapes, from wide open pastures to dense woodland. The biking trails in the region boast altitudes of between 630m and 1605m, and there are enough different cycle paths in the resort to cater to many different levels of ability, ranging from gentle family bike trips to challenging uphill treks. In order to make cycling even easier for visitors, many of the summer lifts in Peyragudes are designed to cater to mountain bike users.

Head out on a hike

Hiking is another great way to explore the landscape in this scenic region. There are more than 15km of cross country trails in the resort, all of which are wonderful for walks whether you are looking for a slow stroll in the sunshine or a more challenging uphill trek. The footpaths of Peyragudes lead through rolling green hills and colourful woodland, with striking views of the Alps Mountains in the distance at all times.

For centuries, animals have played a huge role in daily life and culture in the Pyrenees and this is still true today. Children will especially love getting animals involved in their hiking day trips. Cani-rando is an exciting way to walk through the mountains; this is a slow paced version of husky sledging which involves being strapped to a slow moving sled and being pulled at a gentle pace through the countryside. Horse riding is another great option for getting around in Peyragudes and it is also possible to spot some wild mountain animals during a hiking excursion in the resort.

Take to the tree tops

Step up the pace with exhilarating activities such as tree top jungle adventures which involve ropes and high wires tailored to a range of ages and abilities. Rock climbing and boulder climbing are other fun things to try during your stay. Under the guidance of a fully qualified instructor, find yourselves strapped in to a safety harness and clamber up the side of the mountains and rocks as high as you dare to go. Quad biking is another option that the whole family can enjoy together, and a great way to explore the landscape.

Fabulous French food

The midi Pyrenees is a region which is well known for producing some of the finest traditional cuisine in France. Using ingredients sourced from the wild mountain countryside, the piping hot ovens of homes and restaurants in Peyragudes consistently churn out hearty and delicious meals. During your stay here, make sure you find the time to sample some of the regional specialities that the resort has to offer.

For a wholesome snack to keep you feeling full between long cycles, hikes, and other activities, visit Le Tylito, an eatery which is well known for serving some of the tastiest crepes around. Another popular option is Snack Bar Les Silences, which is situated at the bottom of the slopes not far from the Residence Les Terrasses de Peyragudes. For lavish nights out head to Chez Manu Peyresourde or Le Yeti Agudes which is a cosy, traditionally designed restaurant complete with wooden interiors and an open log fire.

Fabulous French food

The nightlife of this resort is focused on family-friendly options and quiet nights out with friends. There are a few pubs and bars which remain open during the summer; however these are more suited for nights spent chatting with friends over drinks rather than partying until the early hours.

Le Hourgarde is a bar and restaurant which hosts some of the liveliest nightlife in Peyragudes. Other options include La Grange in the heart of the resort, La Tute, and the bar restaurant l'Authentique. If you would prefer a thriving night out with a wild international crowd, then make the simple 30-minute journey to Bagneres de Luchon.

Lift passes

There are 17 lifts in Peyragudes. These are divided into nine high speed chair lifts, five drag lifts, two magic carpet lifts, and one rope tow. These lifts ensure that tourists have easy access to the highest and most difficult spots on the mountain. They remain open throughout the summer which means that the most difficult hiking and cycling spots can be reached with ease by all ages. Lift passes can be bought online or at the tourist office and range from one day passes up to whole season passes. Another perk of purchasing one of these passes is that you will get discounted deals for other amenities across the Pyrenees, including access to the Balnea thermal spa in the Peyragudes valley.

Child care and family facilities

There are plenty of options for child care in and around the resort. Options for parents include one of the five crèches in Peyragudes which remain open all year round. These nurseries have spaces specially reserved for 'tourist' children and cater to kids between the ages of three months and six years. There is also a Kids' Club, complete with exciting group activities and games. It is important to remember that the Kids' Club only stays open four days a week in the summer so will require some planning. There is also a list of fully qualified nannies and au pairs available for private hire in Peyragudes.

Parking

During the winter many guests choose to pay for covered parking. However, if you visit the resort in the summer you will have no need to pay for this, and you will find plenty of free parking spaces on the streets of Peyragudes. Parking spaces are clearly labelled on maps and with street signs with the letter 'P'. It is important to find out if there is a time limit on the amount of time you can park for free, as some are only available for up to one hour.
