Super Devoluy, or Super D if you prefer, styles itself as the 'doorstep skiing resort' with ski-in/ski-out accommodation and super-fast access to the slopes from all the villages' accommodations. The resort was developed from the 1960s, and some of the architecture is in the giant blocks that were the height of fashion back then. That's not true of the whole resort though, and you will find beautiful chalet-style places to stay.
The resort is compact, built with families in mind and very practical with wonderful surroundings. The skiing is linked by lift to La Joue du Loup making up to 100km of varied runs available between 1500 and 2500 metres. Fantastic off-piste and boarding are other pluses. Around 30 neighbouring villages and hamlets offer easily accessible dining and other facilities in more traditional surroundings.

Super D is a purpose-built ski resort. What it loses in Alpine charm is more than made up for with great modern facilities built with family holidays in mind. The surroundings are first rate with some stunning views from the resort taking in the surrounding peaks, which scrape the sky at around 3000m. It is good value and friendly, and very strong on activities for kids, families and teens.
Super Devoluy has five black pistes, 15 red runs, 25 blue, and 15 green runs, providing a good mix of skiing for families. It's possible to really challenge yourself on a full 1000m descent of the resort's slopes, but you need to be able to handle black slopes, starting with two major black pistes (37 and 38), accessible from the Pierra drag lift.
Closer to the resort, at 1500m, are gentler blues and greens to complete this majestic top-to-bottom tour. Powder skiers have plenty to enjoy, particularly around Bonnet Rouge and the Pierra lift. Route 29 is a fast red, well away from other skiers. Nursery and beginner slopes are strongest near the resort.

Dévoluy Ski Area
The wider ski area takes in the slopes above La Joue du Loup, bringing the total of its runs to: 10 blacks, 30 red runs, 50 blue pistes and 30 greens, in a very impressive 100km of downhill skiing. There are 25 lifts across the whole ski area. One of the standout features of Devoluy is the incredible panoramic views from the snowfields. It's really worth putting down your ski poles for a minute or two to take it all in. There are green and blue pistes up to good altitude, allowing for a smooth transition from struggling to keep your balance to plunging down nose-bleed-inducing inclines. The lifts are fast, efficient and well run, and the runs are very well marked.
This place should be a model for other Alpine ski areas. There is also very good cross country skiing, with 35km of tracks through good mixed terrain. The Mushroom Park offers a hectare of boarding thrills, accessible via the Festoure Chairlift. With a wide variety of terrain in neighbouring valleys, Devoluy is a good base for wider-ranging ski tourers, too.
It's with the added extras that a purpose-built resort can really come into its own, and Super Devoluy doesn't disappoint. From the resort you can access snow kiting, snowshoe trekking, tobogganing, dog sledding, snow mobiles, snake gliss, paragliding, ski joering and pony luge, climbing on frozen waterfalls and much more, especially for youngsters.
There's a cinema and games room in the resort, bowling and plenty of spa, pampering and well-being facilities to recover from a hard day on the slopes. A very good, new sports centre will help you work up a sweat if you're not working hard enough on your skis!
