Surfing with surfing school, Surf du Golf

Moliets, situated on the Aquitaine coast, is a small town with a big love of surfing. Come summer, the beach is thronged with surfers hitting the waves. Whether you’re one of the keen beans up at 6am or you’d rather paddle along in the sunset, surfing school Surf du Golf can help you learn or refine your skills.

The school is a two-minute walk from the Villas Prade  and Villas Clairière aux Chevreuils and Madame Vacances’ guests can enjoy a 10% discount on surfing courses. The very personalised service provided by the surf teachers is exceptional – they even plan a visit to the villa in advance to kit you out with wetsuits and give you a few tips for the 1st surf lesson!

A family jumping off a SUP into the sea

Stand Up Paddle with SUP school Naéco

If all that splashing around over and under the waves sounds a bit strenuous, why not adopt the relaxed ‘Landes’ vibe with a SUP lesson or two? Naéco will teach you everything you need to know about paddling across the water like a modern-day Jesus. Lessons are taught on the calm Lake Azur, surrounded by a lush green setting, before you can hit the more vigorous waves which are sure to test your balance!

And the treat of the first SUP session? A guided trip up a small winding stream with lilies, dragonflies, and calmness-inspiring foliage, followed by an insider’s history to the Landes pine forest and the eco-system of this stream and clear watered lake.

A canoe and paddle close up on a river

Canoeing with Pont Neuf

Less than 15 minutes by car from Moliets at Saint Michel Escalus, try canoeing with Pont Neuf. Meander your way down the La Palue River where it’s fair to say you won’t be faced with exhilarating rapids, but you will find a gentle pace and gorgeous backdrop. A pleasant two-hour duration, this activity is ideal for all the family. Children can discover the flora and fauna of the region while having fun – and burning off some energy at the same time.

Learn to skateboard at Skateland School

Calling all teenagers! Take control this summer and teach your parents to skate. Skateland School can be found in Vieux Boucau, just 10 minutes down the road from Moliets by car. Here, children and adults alike can take to the wheels and learn to do turns and ollies, taking the bowls and even rails! Confused, parents? Don’t worry, the teachers will even explain the jargon. Don’t need to be taught to suck eggs? That’s okay, you can skate freely here, too.

Practice your swing at Moliets Golf Club

Moliets is a must for golfers both young and old. Moliets Golf Club has two courses, a 9-holer and an 18-hole course. Recognised as one of the top 10 courses in France, with beautiful views the whole way round, including 3 links holes, putting here is sure to keep all members of the family entertained.

This course offers free family initiations on Sundays, from ages six and up. Plus, book a stay with Madame Vacances and you’ll receive up to 40% discount on unlimited 7-day passes (must be booked in advance).

Tennis at the Tennis Club Moliets

Moliets’ tennis club is located right next to the golf course, so it’s easy to satisfy the whole family. You can choose which court you’d prefer to play on, from clay to grass, hard to indoor. For beginners, the club offers introductory courses to get the whole family up and playing in no time.

Two little brothers laughing on bikes

Bike rental in Moliets with les Vélos du Golf

The Atlantic is one of the best-equipped French coastlines for cycling, with bike paths along the entirety of this stretch. Cycling provides an easy way to move around quickly and see all the surrounding attractions, with paths through the pine forest and along gorgeous beaches. Madame Vacances recommends les Vélos du Golf, where guests receive a personalised welcome and bicycles delivered directly to your property.

Once the family are all kitted up, head to La Vélodyssée, a cycling route that runs the length of the Atlantic French coast and meanders past Moliets. The trail leads through pine forests, past the golf course, through pretty French villages including Capbreton, and on to Bayonne. It’s a route that’s been designed with families in mind, so includes relatively flat but interesting trails and shows off the wild beauty of this coastline. All the while within easy reach of the sea!

Monkey about at Adrénalin Parc

Several metres above ground level, cross bridges, climb ladders and swing on ropes, dodging obstacles at Adrénaline Parc. There are multiple routes, catering for varying ages and abilities. If heights aren’t your thing, Adrénaline Parc also offers quad biking and paintballing.

The park is open from Easter through to Halloween, from 9.30am until 7.30pm in July and August and operates shorter, afternoon hours outside of peak season.

Play Pelota with the Tourist Office

Pelota is a hugely popular and patriotic sport, played mainly in Basque Country (of which Moliets is on the border). In this area, you’re likely to find even more Pelota courts than football fields! Pelota is a fast-moving game fairly similar to Squash, using a racket, bat or basket to hit the ball against a wall.

To introduce you to Basque Pelota, Madame Vacances recommends the tournaments the Tourist Office organise every Tuesday from 5:30pm. As such a popular sport, long-time players are always keen to spread the knowledge to newbies!

Make a splash at the water park, Aygueblue

25 minutes by car from Moliets is the water park, Aygueblue. Ideal for a rainy day when stuck inside, this park offers several huge indoor swimming pools. Toddlers can go for a paddle in a small pool with water jets and slides, leaving parents to relax and enjoy the massage jets.

Enjoy the waves and a strong tide, with none of the salt in the ocean wave pool, before trying your hand at a game of ping pong on the lawn outside – weather permitting!
